A thief noticed a policeman at a distance of 600 metres. The thief started running and the policeman chased him. The thief and policeman are running at speeds of 12 km/h and 15 km/h, respectively. Find the time (in minutes) required for the policeman to catch the thief.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 12.

Thief's speed = 12 km/hr

Policeman's speed = 15 km/hr

The relative speed of the policeman with respect to the thief

Relative speed = Policemen's speed - Thief's speed

The time taken to cover the initial distance of 600 meters

Time = Distance/Speed

⇒ 6003×518\frac{600}{3\times \frac{ 5} {18} }

⇒ 720 sec or 12 minutes

Therefore, the time required for the policeman to catch the thief is 12 minutes.
