A sum of Rs. 14460 is divided among A, B, C, and D such that the ratio of the share of A and B is 3 : 5, that of B and C is 6 : 7 and that of C and D is 14 : 15. What is the difference between the shares of A and C?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. Rs. 2040.

According to the question,

A : B = 3 : 5 ...(1)

B : C = 6 : 7 ...(2)

C : D = 14 : 15 ...(3)

Multiply (1) by 6 and (2) by 5 we get

A : B = 18 : 30  (1), B : C = 30 : 35 ...(2), C : D = 14 : 15 ...(3)

Now multiply (3) by 5 and (2) by 2 and (1) by 2 we get

A : B : C : D = 36 : 60 : 70 : 75

difference between the shares of A and C is {(70x - 36x)/(36x + 60x + 70x + 75x)} × 14460

⇒ (34/241) × 14460 = Rs. 2040
