A sum of ₹9,000 is lent partly at 7% and the remaining at 9% per annum. If the yearly interest on the average is 8.5%, then the sum (in ₹) which is lent at 9% is:

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 6,750. 

Let ₹x be lent at 9%,

so ₹(9000 − x) at 7%

Total interest = 8.5% of 9000 = ₹765

According to the question,

⇒ 7100(9000−x)+9x100=765{{{7\over100}(9000-x)}+{9x\over100}}={765}

⇒ 63000 - 7x + 9x = 76500

⇒ 2x = 13500

⇒ x = 6750
