SSC CHSL - 14 Nov 2025 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q52

A solid metal sphere with a radius of 12 cm is melted and transformed into multiple smaller spheres, each with a radius of 2 cm. How many smaller spheres can be created from the original sphere?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

Radius of the large sphere = 12 cm
Radius of the small sphere = 2 cm
According to the formula:
Volume of a sphere = (4/3)πr³
Volume of the large sphere = (4/3)π × 12³
Volume of the small sphere = (4/3)π × 2³
Number of small spheres =12323=17288=216= \frac{12^3}{2^3} = \frac{1728}{8} = 216
