SSC CHSL - 01 July 2024 - Shift 4 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q52

A robber steals a bag from a man at 5 p.m. and starts running at 10 km/h. A policeman is informed about the robber at 5 : 12 p.m. and he chases him on a cycle at 15 km/h. At what time is the robber caught by the policeman?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 5:36 p.m.

Given that

Speed of the robber = 10 km/h

⇒ Distance covered by the robber in 12 minutes = 1260\frac{12}{60} × 10 = 2 km

The relative speed of the robber and the policeman = 15 - 10 = 5 km/h

Formula used

⇒ Speed = DistanceTime\frac{Distance}{Time}

Hence the time taken to cover the distance of 2 km =  25\frac{2}{5} hrs = 24 minutes

Hence, the robber is caught 24 minutes 5 : 12 i.e. 5 : 36 pm.
