A reduction of 12 12\frac{1}{2}% in the price of wheat enables a person to buy 2 12\frac{1}{2} kg more for Rs. 280. Initially, how much wheat (in kg) was the person able to buy?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 17.5

Price is Inversely Proportional to the consumption.

Reduction in price =   12 12\frac{1}{2}% = 1/8

                                  Initial       Final

Price                           8     →      7

Consumption            7     →      8

We have given,  after the price reduced he buy  2 12\frac{1}{2} kg more.

⇒ 1 = 5/2 Kg

So, his initial consumption = 7 × 5/2 = 17.5 kg
