SSC CPO - 29 June 2024 Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q115

A person bought two buffaloes for ₹11,520. One is sold at a loss of 15% and the other is sold at a gain of 19%. If the selling price of both buffaloes is equal, find the cost price of the first one.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. ₹6,720.

Given that, CP of both buffaloes = ₹11,520

Loss % = 15%

Gain % = 19%

SP=CP×100+P100SP = {{CP \times{ {100 + P}\over 100}}}

Also, SP=CP×100−L100SP = {{CP \times{ {100 - L}\over 100}}}

Let the SP of the buffalo sold at loss be x.

According to the given question,

x×100−15100{{x \times{ {100 - 15}\over 100}}} = (11520−x)×100+19100 {{(11520 - x) \times{ {100 + 19}\over 100}}}

⇒ 85x = 119(11520 - x)

⇒ 85x = 1370880 - 119x

⇒ 204x = 1370880

⇒ x = 6720

Hence the the cost price of the first one(one sold at loss) is ₹6,720.
