A man walking at a speed of 3km/h crosses a square field diagonally in 5 minutes. What is the area of the field (in m2 ) ?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 31250

The speed of the man = 3 km/h

Area of the square = a2

Diagonal of the square = a2\sqrt{2}

Length of the diagonal = total covered distance by the man in 5 minutes

 a2\sqrt{2}  = 3 × (5/60) × 1000         {1km = 1000m and 1hr = 60 min}

 a2\sqrt{2} = 250 m 

Square on both sides

2a2 = 62500

a2 = 31250

Area of the square = 31250 m2
