Let the distance covered in one journey be d

Hence the total distance covered is 2d

Distance d is covered with a speed of 12 km/h and again with a speed  of 8 km/h

Total time taken = 3 hours 45 mins = $\frac{15}{4}$ hours

Formula used

Time = $\frac{distance}{speed}$

$\frac{15}{4}$ = $\frac{d}{12} + \frac{d}{8}$ 

Solving for d we get

d = 18

Hence the total distance covered will be 2 × 18 = 36 km.
