A hemispherical bowl with a radius of 21 cm is filled with a liquid. The liquid is to be poured into small cylindrical bottles, each with a diameter of 7 cm and a height of 9 cm. How many such bottles are required to empty the bowl?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

Radius of the hemisphere = 21 cm
Diameter of the bottle = 7 cm ⇒ Radius = 3.5 cm
Height of the bottle = 9 cm
According to the formula:
Volume of the hemisphere =23πr3 = \frac{2}{3}\pi r^3
Volume of the hemisphere =23×227×213=19404 cm3= \frac{2}{3} \times \frac{22}{7} \times 21^3 = 19404 \text{ cm}^3
Volume of the cylinder = πr²h
Volume of one bottle =227×(3.5)2×9=346.5 cm3= \frac{22}{7} \times (3.5)^2 \times 9 = 346.5 \text{ cm}^3
Number of bottles = 19404 / 346.5 = 56
