SSC Selection Post 2025 PYQ — Question 48

SSC Selection Post - Matriculation Level - 29th July 2025 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q48

A hemisphere is placed on top of a cylinder with the same base radius. If their combined height is 18 cm and radius is 6 cm, find the total surface area.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The height of the hemisphere is equal to its radius.

Height of the hemisphere = 6 cm

Therefore, height of the cylinder = 18 - 6 = 12 cm

Curved surface area of the cylinder + Curved surface area of the hemisphere + Base of the cylinder

= 2πrh + 2πr² + πr²

= 2π × 6 × 12 + 3π × 6²

= 144π + 108π

= 252π

= 252 × 22/7

= 792 cm2
