A heap of sand is in the shape of a right circular cone. It has a slant height of 10 feet and a base diameter of 16 feet. Find the volume of sand making up the heap. (Take π = 3.14)

Explanation

The Correct answer is option 1 i.e. 401.92  ft3.

slant height l = 10 feet

Diameter = 16 feet

Radius = 16/2 = 8 feet

h = l2−r2\sqrt{l^2-r^2}

h = 102−82\sqrt{10^2-8^2}

h = 6 feet

The volume of sand making up the heap = 1/3 πr2h

= 13×3.14×82×6\frac{1}{3}\times3.14\times8^2\times6

= 401.92 ft3
