A garden is in the shape of a regular hexagon, each side 20 m. If 5% of it is occupied by a circular fountain, find the remaining area.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 987.24 m2.

Area of regular hexagon = (3√3)/2 × Side2

=332×202= \frac{3\sqrt{3}}{2} \times 20^2

=332×400= \frac{3\sqrt{3}}{2} \times 400

= 600√3 m2

= (600 × 1.732) m2

= 1039.2 m2

Area occupied by fountain = 0.05 × 1039.2 = 51.96 m2

Remaining area = 1039.2 - 51.96 = 987.24 m2
