Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: D
Explanation
The correct answer is option 4 i.e. ₹2,500.
Let the total monthly income of the father be x
Income given by the father to both his sons = 0.08x
Income received by the elder son = 0.85 × 0.08x = 0.068x
Income spent by him = 0.9 × 0.85 × 0.08x = 0.0612x
According to the question
0.068x - 0.0612x = 17
⇒ 0.0068x = 17
⇒ x = 2500
Hence, the father's total monthly income is Rs. 2,500.
