A drum contains 40 litres of milk. One-fourth of the milk is taken out and replaced with water. Then, half of the mixture is taken out and replaced with water. What is the respective quantity of milk and water left in the drum?
Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: C
Explanation
The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 15 litres and 25 litres
Total milk = 40 litres
Amount of milk replaced by water = 1/4 × 40 = 10 litres
Milk left in the mixture = 40 - 10 = 30 litres
Now, ratio of milk and water = 3 : 1
Half of the mixture is taken out i.e. 20 litres and 20 litres of water is added
Hence milk left = 3/4 × 20 = 15 litres
Water left = 1/4 × 20 + 20 = 25 litres
