SSC CHSL - 05 July 2024 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q61

A cylindrical oil tank has a radius of 5 m and a total surface area of 628 m2. What would be its curved surface area? (round off to the second decimal place)

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 470.8 m2.

Total Surface Area of a cylinder = 2πr(r + h)

628 = 2 × (22/7) × (5) × (5 + h)

⇒ 10 × (22/7) × (5 + h) = 628

⇒ 5 + h = 19.98

⇒ h = 19.98 - 5 = 14.98 m

Curved Surface Area of a cylinder = 2πrh = 2 × (22/7) × 5 × 14.98 = 470.8 m2

Therefore, the curved surface area of the cylindrical oil tank is 470.8 m2.
