SSC CGL 2025 PYQ — Question 60

SSC CGL - 15 Sep 2025 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q60

A cylinder and a hemisphere have the same radius. Their combined height is 40 cm.
If the cylinder and the hemisphere have equal volumes, find the radius.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 24 cm.

Volume of cylinder = πr2h\pi r^2 h

Volume of hemisphere = 23πr3\frac{2}{3} \pi r^3

Now, volume of cylinder = Volume of hemisphere

⇒ πr2h\pi r^2 h = 23πr3\frac{2}{3} \pi r^3

⇒ h = 23r\frac{2}{3} r

Given, r + h = 40
⇒ r + 23r\frac{2}{3} r = 40

⇒ 53r\frac{5}{3} r = 40

⇒ r = 24 cm
