SSC CGL - 13 Sep 2025 - Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q69

A and B start a business. A invests 3 times more than B. After 6 months, A withdraws one-third of his capital, and B doubles his capital. If the total profit after one year is ₹90,000, find the share of A.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

A's share = ₹56,250

Working:
Let B's investment = x, so A's investment = 3x

First 6 months: A invests 3x, B invests x

After 6 months:
A withdraws 1/3 of capital: A's new capital = 3x - (1/3)(3x) = 3x - x = 2x
B doubles capital: B's new capital = 2x

Capital × Time (investment-months):
A's total = (3x × 6) + (2x × 6) = 18x + 12x = 30x
B's total = (x × 6) + (2x × 6) = 6x + 12x = 18x

Ratio of profit sharing (A : B) = 30x : 18x = 5 : 3
Total parts = 5 + 3 = 8

A's share = (5/8) × 90000 = 56250
