A and B are two stations 420 km apart. A train starts from A at 11 am and travels towards B at the speed of 70 kmph. Another train starts from B at 12 noon and travels towards A at the speed of 30 kmph. At what time do they meet?
Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: C
Explanation
The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 3:30 pm.
Distance between A and B = 420 km
Train 1 starts at 11 AM, but Train 2 starts at 12 Noon
Distance covered in 1 hour = 70 × 1 = 70 km
Remaining distance between them when Train 2 starts = 420 - 70 = 350 km
Both trains are moving towards each other,
Relative speed = 70 + 30 = 100 km/hr
Now,
Time = Distance/speed = 350/100 = 3.5 hours
Train 2 starts at 12:00 Noon
Hence, they meet at = 12 : 00 + 3.5 = 3 : 30 pm
