64% of the students of a class are girls and 81.25% of the girls have chosen soccer as their favourite sport. If 143 girls have chosen soccer as their favourite sport, what is the total number of students in the class?

Let the total number of students be 100x.

According to the given question,

Number of girls = 64% of 100x = 64x

Number of girls chose soccer as favourite game = 81.25% of 64x

Now, 81.25% of 64x = 143

⇒ 81.25100×64x=143{81.25 \over 100} \times 64x = 143

⇒ x = 11411 \over 4

So, total number of students = 100x = 100×114100 \times {11 \over 4} = 275

Hence the required answer is 275.
