16 men can dig a ditch 24 m long in 18 days, working 6 hours a day. How many more men should be engaged to dig a similar ditch 42 m long in 9 days, each man now working 12 hours per day?

M1×D1×H1W1=M2×D2×H2W2{M_1 × D_1 × H_1\over W_1} = {M_2 × D_2 × H_2\over W_2}

here, M = men's, D = days, H = hours, W = work

⇒ 16×18×624=(16+M)×9×1242{16 × 18 × 6\over 24} = {(16+M) × 9 × 12\over 42}

⇒ 4 × 18 = (16+M)×9×27 {(16+M) × 9 × 2\over 7}

⇒ 4 × 7 = 16 + M

⇒ 28 = 16 + M

⇒ M = 12
