141 is divided into two parts in such a way that the one-eighth part of the first and the one-ninth part of the second are in the ratio 5 : 6. Find the first part.

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 60.

Let first part = x, then second part = 141 − x

According to the question,

⇒ 18×x19×(141−x)=56{{{1\over8}\times x}\over{{1\over9}\times(141-x)}} = {5\over6}

⇒ x8×9(141−x)=56{{{x\over8}}\times{{9\over(141-x)}}} = {5\over6}

⇒ 6x × 9 = 40(141 - x)

⇒ 54x = 5640 - 40x

⇒ 94x = 5640

⇒ x = 60
