[(1 + p)(1 + p²)(1 + p$^4$)(1 + p$^8$)(1 + p¹6)(1 − p) − 1]

 (1 + p)(1 + p²)(1 + p$^4$)(1 + p$^8$)(1 + p¹$^6$)

This product looks like the expansion of (1 − p$^3$$^2$) minus (1 − p).

(1 − p)(1 + p) (1 + p²)(1 + p$^4$)(1 + p$^8$)(1 + p¹$^6$)

We can use the fact that the expression inside the brackets is equivalent to the following product:

 (1 − p$^3$$^2$)

Subtract 1 from the result =  (1 − p$^3$$^2$) - 1 = 1 -  p$^3$$^2$ - 1 = - p$^3$$^2$
